Abstract

The analysis of the flood events of the years 2014, 2015-2016 and 2019 in the middle basin of the Paraguay River is presented, taking into account the effects caused by changes in land use. The study area ranges from the Apa river basin to Asunción. For the study the utilited, data from hydrometeorological time series and; Soil type maps and land use maps were prepared for the years 2014 and 2019. The simulated flows were calibrated with the flows observed in Asunción, obtaining good results, the total analysis period ranges from years 1984 to 2019, Then a sensitivity analysis was carried out considering two scenarios; In the first scenario, the study area without forest cover was taken, on the one hand, for the second scenario the study area with forest cover was considered, obtaining several hydrographs that resulted in an increase in the maximum flow as deforestation increased. decrease in the minimum flow, but as the forest area increases, the maximum flow decreases and the minimum flow increases, which is consistent with studies carried out in experimental basins in different parts of the world.
