Abstract

This study was conducted with the aim of evaluating colostrum quality in postpartum mares and passive transfer of immunity in foals at a facility in the district of Filadelfia, Boquerón Department in the year 2022. A total of 22 female horses, recently foaled (up to 24 hours postpartum), with normal deliveries, regardless of breed or age, were included in the study, along with the 22 foals born from them, regardless of gender or breed, and apparently healthy. Commercial kits, Inmuno G Test CALOSTRO and Inmuno-G Test® (ACV-EQUIMEL, SRL), were used to assess colostrum quality and blood immunoglobulin levels, respectively. The results indicated that 100 % of the analyzed colostrum samples were of good quality (values above 3 g/dL within 10 minutes), and regarding the passive transfer of immunity, it was verified that it was good in 100% of the foals (above 800 mg/dL between 0 and 10 minutes).
