Abstract

This research addresses the experiences of life and participation of rural women in relation to agrarian reform, in the community of Chakoré, First Line of the municipality of Repatriation, Caaguazú. It is an exploratory-descriptive research with a qualitative approach. Information gathering techniques such as focus groups, semi-structured interviews and participatory diagnosis were used. The sample consisted of 12 female heads of household belonging to the Women’s Committee. The objective was to describe the experiences of participation of rural women in the community within the framework of the agrarian reform between 2006-2016. Its specific objectives were: To identify the state initiatives to promote the participation of women on equal terms with men in the agrarian reform process and the obstacles to this participation. As main results we find that the experiences of participation of women farmers in Chakoré were very few, since there was no experience in the context of a peasant movement and the Women’s Committee has not had a solid organization; State initiatives through public policies for agrarian reform on equal terms for men and women are void, and the main obstacle to women’s participation is the lack of awareness of their rights. With this the scarce organization for the participation of women around the right to land is visible, and the breach of Inc. 10 of Art. 117 of the National Constitution by the Paraguayan State. A challenge of the struggle for land implies the incorporation of the gender perspective.
