Abstract
Background: Periampullary cancers include those tumors that develop in the adjacencies of the Ampulla of Vater, according to their origin is cancer of the head of the pancreas, cancer of the ampulla of Vater, cancer of the distal portion of the common bile duct.
Objective: To determine the prevalence of periampullary cancers in the period 2006-2015 of the First Chair of Surgical Clinic of the Hospital de Clínicas of the National University of Asunción.
Methods: Retrospective descriptive, cross-sectional observational design carried out in the period 2006-2015 of the First Chair of Surgical Cylinder of the Hospital de Clínicas, the data were obtained through the reviews of the medical records.
Results: A higher prevalence was found between the ages between 41 and 64 years, it was found that pancreatic cancer represented 85%, more frequent in the male sex.
Conclusion: The cases diagnosed with periampullary cancers was 0.32% (40 cases) of the total, which is 12,250 cases in total.
