Prevention of adolescent pregnancy: a shared ethical responsibility for the sexual and reproductive health of the population

Abstract

Early pregnancy is a common problem in societies worldwide. This situation is especially accentuated in the poorest societies with the greatest lack of education. The research aims to describe the social and psychological factors related to adolescent pregnancy from the perspective of adolescents, to achieve a joint work between health authorities, health professionals and obstetric students. The aim is to educate adolescents about the consequences of a pregnancy at an early age, in order to avoid unwanted pregnancies and to develop the ability to make decisions in aspects that affect the integral development in adolescents. The methodology of the work responds to a quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional approach. For the quantitative study, the survey technique was used as well as the questionnaire as an instrument, within a non-experimental design. The informed consent of the head of the household and the consent of the adolescent were requested. The sample involves 40 adolescents who go to a doctor's office. Relationships with parents is an indicator that is evaluated in terms of social factors. It can be concluded that a high percentage speak openly with their parents about planning, and parents are aware of their children upon arrival at home. Concerning the psychological factors, less than half feel anxious, hopeless, sad and feel are protected at home. A high percentage does not find protection at home in terms of clean clothes, food, care.
