Abstract
Background: Bronchiolitis is a common respiratory disease in the paediatric population. Affected infants and young children usually present with mild symptoms at the onset of the disease, such as rhinorrhoea and mild fever. The therapeutic approach focuses on alleviating symptoms and preventing complications.
Materials and methods: The study used an observational and retrospective design, with a sample of 41 patients. Sociodemographic, clinical, admission, associated diagnoses and treatment data were collected. Data were obtained from the complete medical records of the admitted patients.
Results: A total of 41 paediatric patients during 2019 with a diagnosis of bronchiolitis were analysed. The mean age of the patients was 2.61 months, with a standard deviation of 1.641 months.
1.641 months. The results reveal predominance of respiratory symptoms, high prevalence of respiratory distress, associated diagnoses, and variability in clinical values and duration of hospitalisation.
Conclusion: The study supports the typical presentation of bronchiolitis in infants, emphasises the importance of an individualised approach and contributes to a better understanding of the disease.
