Abstract

Background: Diabetes Mellitus has become one of the most important heal- th problems worldwide, with an accelerated growth in the number of people affected. In the various universities the administrative staff experiences hard work hours, generally office tasks that involve sitting for hours, without taking into account the imbalance in food and days without rest, in an environment of permanent tension and stress, which can have negative effects on the health of each worker, it becomes a risk factor for chronic non-commu- nicable diseases such as diabetes mellitus. The objective was to determine these risk factors for chronic noncommunicable diseases such as diabetes mellitus.

Methods: Cross-sectional, descriptive, observational, multicentric study with randomized stratified sampling, obtained in 9 universities of South America during de first semester of the year 2018 in workers of administrative le- vel. To assess the risk of diabetes, we used the Findrisk test, random glucose sampling and a survey of associated risk factors; for the descriptive analysis we used SPSS.

Results: A total of 297 workers were evaluated, 71,72% of which have a sig- nificant risk of developing diabetes in 10 years; 53,54% does not perform any physical activity, and 60,60% are overweight or obese.

Conclusion: Indeed, administrative staff is a risk population, with associated factors such as sedentary lifestyle and overweight. Therefore, it is very important to apply prevention measures at an institutional level.
