Adhesion to therapeutic schemes in patients with hipertrigliceridemia

Abstract

Hyperlypoproteinemiae is a group of diseases known to be related with increased cardiovascular risk, associated or not with other factors as hypertension diabetes and smoking habit.

Among them, hypertrigliceridemiae, present in several types of lipoprotein disorders, is a independent factor for early appearance of severe atherosclerosis.

A common problem in its management is de poor compliance of patients to pharmacotherapy, particulary among those asymptomatic or polimedicated for comorbidities.

Objetive: searching for percentages of adhesion at pharmacotherapy with fibrates at 3 and 6 months, verifying causes of non-compliance on those patients on ambulatory follow up.

Results: 64 patients were evaluated, staying on treatment 64% at 3 months, and 28% at 6 months. Most relevant causes of non-compliance were insuficient understanding of medical indications (76%) and side effects (17%).

Conclusion: the high index of non-compliance due to poor understanding of the treatment plan reveals insufficient time and resourses devoted on patient education.
