Abstract

This paper aims to examine the ethical challenges and plagiarism consequences associated with the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in academia. A structured questionnaire was administered to 100 university professors from public and private universities in Paraguay, exploring their knowledge, perceptions, and stances regarding the use of tools such as ChatGPT. The results show a strong identification of AI as a content producer and widespread recognition of the ethical and plagiarism risks associated with its use. Ninety-one percent of participants maintain that presenting AI-generated texts as their own constitutes plagiarism, while 87% consider institutional regulation of its use essential. The study concludes that establishing clear regulations, training faculty, and the responsible use of AI are essential to safeguarding academic integrity.
