Abstract

Background: Laryngeal Papillomatosis or Recurrent Respiratory Papillomatosis (PRR in Spanish) is an infectious disease of the larynx. It occurs in two forms: juvenile and adult. The objective was to determine the characteristics of the clinical cases with PRR.
Methods: A series of cases from 2010 to 2015 of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology at the Hospital de Clínicas of San Lorenzo, Paraguay, were studied.
Results: Of the 10 cases, 70% were male. 40% presented recurrent. No cases of malignancy were observed. 75% of the recurrent cases were treated with laryngeal microsurgery or infiltration with alfa interferon.
Conclusion: Equal quantities of both forms were found. The majority were males. The reason for consultation mostly was for dysphonia (hoarseness). It was observed that 40% were recurrent, more frequent in juvenile. Most were treated with laryngeal microsurgery or infiltration with alfa interferon. The proportion was 8 cases for every 1000 patients.
