Abstract

Background: Proteinuria is an indicator of evident renal disease and also the first indicator of silent renal damage; it is also a determinant of chronic kidney disease and a risk factor for the progression of this disease and is described as a condition in which the urine contains an abnormal load of protein. The aim of this study was to determine the proteinuria value in adults with risk factors in two neighborhoods of Lambaré.
Methods: Observational, cross-sectional, descriptive study conducted in the Villa Virginia and Colonias del Yacht neighborhoods of the city of Lambaré in 2016. Sampling of non-probabilistic type at convenience. The sample included 73 people of both sexes between 18 and 60 years old.
Results: 34 people (53.4%) presented proteinuria, of which 29 people (39.7%) presented traces of protein; in the sample, 37 people (50.7%) were women and 36 people (49.3%) were men. 100% of diabetic patiens had proteinuria and 81.8% of hypertensive.
Conclusion: Most of the proteinuria tests presented positive results, and the risk factor that presents major proteinuria is diabetes mellitus.
