2025-05-26

Guest Editors: Beatriz Erazo & Araceli Salas

Teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL) is as diverse and dynamic as the contexts in which it occurs. From urban classrooms to rural communities, EFL contexts are shaped by unique socio-cultural, economic, and institutional realities that emerge from the context where English is taught. However, teaching in these contexts might bring opportunities for teachers’ growth, creativity, and innovation. At the same time, EFL classroom realities present challenges that demand practical solutions, adaptability, and resilience for teachers worldwide; therefore, contributing and adding to teachers’ cognition (Borg, 2015).

The editorial board of ÑEMITỸRÃ – Multilingual Journal of Language, Society, and Education invites submissions for a special issue titled Real Issues in Real EFL Contexts. This issue aims to explore the authentic challenges and innovative responses shaping English as a Foreign Language (EFL) in today’s classrooms, particularly in multilingual and multicultural environments.

We welcome contributions that offer practical, empirical, research-based insights on topics such as:

  • Managing large classes in EFL settings
  • ESP for EFL contexts
  • Culturally appropriate materials in EFL classrooms
  • Innovative methodologies or approaches
  • Developing language and digital skills
  • Cultural and multilingual competencies in language teaching as well as intercultural awareness
  • Technology integration and real applications of Artificial Intelligence in EFL classrooms
  • Action research and reflective practice for professional development
  • Grounded experiences and solutions to everyday classroom challenges
  • EFL Teaching  for Inclusive Education
  • Opportunities for emotional support and well-being among teachers and students in EFL classrooms.

This issue is a great opportunity for experienced, first-time authors and early-career researchers to share their research and practical experiences. Therefore, we encourage submissions from diverse voices from the field, with an emphasis on reflection, innovation, and relevance to real teaching contexts.
