This essay examines the academic career and contributions to Canadian, Latin American and world sociology of Eleonora Cebotarev (1928 - 2007). Although she was born in Prague, she migrated when she was a child with her family to Paraguay, settling in Capitán Miranda (Itapúa) where she remained until she was 26 years old. Cebotarev then moved to the United States where she completed her master’s and doctorate studies in sociology at the Pennsylvania State University, and later settled in Canada, where she pursued her career as a sociologist, and had being appointed as Emeritus Professor at the University of Guelph in 1994. (Ontario). The essay takes a review of her life in Paraguay and Canada and refers to her main contributions in the field of rural sociology and gender studies.
