Abstract

This paper examines young people's access to housing in the metropolitan area of Greater Asunción, with the aim of understanding the social, educational, and family-related factors that influence this process. From a sociological perspective, it analyzes how family networks, academic background, and social position shape young people's residential trajectories beyond income level. The research adopts a mixed-methods approach, combining a structured survey with semi-structured interviews conducted with young people from different social backgrounds. This strategy allowed for the integration of both objective and subjective dimensions of housing access, considering not only material conditions but also the decisions, values, and strategies associated with housing. The study contributes to a broader debate on the structural inequalities affecting youth in Paraguay and Latin America, highlighting how the family remains a central actor in the transition to adulthood. It seeks to enrich the analysis of housing access by incorporating relational and symbolic variables that are often excluded from traditional economic approaches.
