Paraguay faces significant socioeconomic challenges despite maintaining a stable macroeconomy. Economic growth has not translated into greater social welfare, with inequality and extreme poverty persisting. According to the 2024 Continuous Household Survey, unemployment has increased and underemployment continues to be an endemic problem, affecting women in particular. The education system shows significant deficiencies, with a large proportion of students failing to achieve basic literacy levels, a situation that is exacerbated in rural areas and indigenous communities. This perpetuates the cycle of poverty and limits opportunities for development.
In this context, “Cuadernos de Sociología” is becoming an annual publication to provide a broader space for research on these critical issues. The publication seeks to foster dialogue between researchers, policymakers, and social organizations, promoting research that is accessible to both academia and the general public.
