Abstract
Background: Hydrocephalus caused by obstruction of the foramen of Monro is usually due to neoplastic lesions or inflammatory pathologies, which can develop uni or biventricular hydrocephalus.
The Case: A 24-year-old female patient presented with a 2-week history of headache and vomiting. In image studies, ventriculomegaly of the lateral ventricles is evidenced. A biventricular hydrocephalus was diagnosed due to obstruction of both foramina of Monro, with biventricular ventriculoperitoneal shunting. In controls, diminished lateral ventricles are observed.
Conclusion: An occlusion of the foramen of Monro may be due to various etiologies. The reason why the patient presents hydrocephalus only in adulthood is unknown. The diagnostic presumption is based on the presence of biventricular ventriculomegaly in imaging studies and the absence of other pathologies.
