Abstract
Background: A good intervention in the stress level in caregivers of inpatients could be used in prevention of illness by this population and could improve the patient care, reducing the possibility of increasing the burden of disease among inpatients. The main goal has been to determine the existence of a relationship between the stress level of caregivers with alcohol intake patterns in the Internal Medicine Departments of the Hospital de Clínicas of San Lorenzo in 2018.
Methods: The design was observational analytic of prevalence, transversal, with a non-probabilistic of consecutive cases at convenience. The caregivers were studied with the Caregiver Self Assesment Questionaire to measure the stress levels and the AUDIT-C scale for the evaluation of the alcohol intake patterns. CI=95%
Results: Over a sample of 55 caregivers was found that the 77,78% were women, with an age average of 38,3513,56 years. 87,72% had increased levels of stress and the 14,04% of the subjects had abnormal use of alcohol. It has been found significant association between the increased stress levels and the abnormal use of alcohol (χ=5,3980, p=0,02016), but it has not been found differences between sexes on the stratified analysis.
Conclusion: it has been found a significant relationship (p<0,05) between the increased stress level in the subjects with abnormal level of alcohol
