Abstract
Background: “Self-esteem” is defined as the attitude that one has toward oneself. This influences the quality of life of each individual, impacts all areas of his life and determines the productivity, effectiveness of people and also the academic and general performance of students; therefore, it was considered relevant to measure the level of self-esteem levels of the applicants and students of Basic Sciences of the Medicine career of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the National University of Asunción.
Methods: The Bell Self-esteem questionnaire was carried out to a total of 269 subjects among the students of the Propaedeutic Course of Admission to Medicine and students from 1st to 3rd year of the race. The statistical analyzes were performed in Microsoft Excel.
Results: It was found that the predominant levels of self-esteem are Regular and Good; a low but not unimportant index (~ 2%) presented Poor self-esteem and also a low proportion (~ 7%) qualified with a very good level of self-esteem.
Conclusion: A very positive result was observed in the analysis of self-esteem in the students of the CPAM and there was a decrease in the self-esteem of the students of the 1st year with a subsequent gradual rise in the levels of self-esteem in the higher courses.
