Abstract

This portrait, written from a close voice and direct witness, pays tribute to Professor Stella Mary García Agüero (1969–2025), a fundamental figure in the construction of critical Social Work in Paraguay. Through a journey through the main milestones of his academic, intellectual and political life, his legacy in university teaching, social research, institutional management and advocacy in public policies during the last decades is reconstructed. From the memory shared as colleagues, this portrait also recovers the affective bond and professional complicity that we share, revealing Stella not only as a key agent in the transformation of Paraguayan social thought, but as a generous, coherent and deeply human teacher. It is, at the same time, a personal testimony and a political contribution to the memory of emancipatory thought in Paraguay.

  • Ada Concepción Vera Rojas, Universidad Nacional de Asunción, Facultad de Ciencias Sociales. San Lorenzo, Paraguay.

    Paraguayan social worker and teacher with more than 30 years of experience at the National University of Asunción. She is the first dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and a full member of the CLACSO Steering Committee, excelling in education, research, and academic management.
