Abstract
Background: Hepatitis due to co-infection dengue-hepatitis A is a poorly documented disease. There are reported cases in Asia and Europe, as the clinical and laboratory manifestations are similar.
The case: 29-year-old male patient, from Tegucigalpa, Honduras, evaluated in July 2016, with 5 days of intermittent fever at 38 °C, had chills, myalgias and arthralgias, and stable vital signs. After three days, he presented with jaundice, accompanied by asthenia, nausea, vomiting and pain in the upper right quadrant. Serology for dengue IgG and IgM and antibodies IgM for hepatitis A were all positive, TGO 366 Ul and TGP 392 Ul, and bilirubin total 7.09 mg / dl. The patient was discharged after a total of 5 days, with daily improvement, and was reassessed with a TGO of 37 U/l, TGP 212 U/l, and total bilirubin of 1.69 mg/dl.
Conclusion: Since dengue-hepatitis A coinfection is part of the differential diagnosis of viral hepatitis, it should be ruled out in cases of endemic diseases in America.
