Vital signs in medical students before and after moderate physical activity
Keywords:
Moderate physical activity, vital signs, medical students, heart rateAbstract
Introduction: Assessing vital signs before and after physical activities is very important; measuring heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure provides valuable information about how the body is responding to exercise and if there areany abnormalities. Especially for preventing injuries, adjusting exercise intensity and detecting underlying health problems. This study assessed changes in the vital signs of medical students at the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the National University of Asuncion before and after moderate physical activity.
Methodology: Intervention type.
Population and sample: 79 medical students. Groups were organized to perform the measurements, BP, HR, HR and TC were recorded before and after completing a circuit of moderate physical activity (walking, climbing and descending stairs, jogging,
jumping rope and dancing) for 20 minutes, repeating the circuit twice. All activities and measurements were performed according to standardized protocols to ensure data consistency.
Results: Differences were analyzed according to the level of habitual physical activity, observing a better cardiovascular response (lower post-exercise heart rate) in physically active students, with a significant p=0.031. However, no relevant differences were found in other vital signs.
Conclusions: From the comparison between students who exercise regularly and those who do not, it was observed that active
students had better cardiovascular control, with a lower post-intervention HR. However, no significant differences were found in
other vital signs, such as BP, HR or TC. It highlights the relevance of physical exercise in the modulation of vital signs, especially HR, contributing positively to the cardiovascular health of medical students.
