Uso de chatbots en estudiantes de medicina de la Facultad de Ciencias Médicas – UNA, año 2023

Abstract

A chatbot is an artificial intelligence program designed to answer questions and perform specific tasks through online conversations. In the field of medicine, artificial intelligence has been key to innovating in the diagnosis and prevention of diseases, and chatbots, such as ChatGPT launched by OpenAI in November 2022, represent one of the most significant advances. These programs use deep learning models to search and select information quickly and efficiently, reducing the time and effort required to research manually. This research aimed to describe the frequency of use of chatbots among first-year medical students at the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the National University of Asunción. An observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out, measuring quantitative and qualitative variables such as age, sex, internet access, types of chatbots most used and students' perception of their use. The results showed that the majority of the surveyed population, predominantly female and aged between 21 and 23, resides in Asunción and has access to the internet. Although the majority of students are aware of chatbots, only 46.3% use them frequently, with ChatGPT being one of the most popular. Understanding how medical students use chatbots is essential to adapt and enrich educational programs, as well as to better integrate their use in the training of future doctors, providing valuable information to improve education in this area.
