Adherence to the treatment of arterial hypertension in parents of first year medical students at the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the National University of Asunción

48% of the population of parents of first year medical students of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the National University of Asunción (UNA) are hypertensive, of which 80% are adherents to antihypertensive treatment. The average age of the parents corresponds to 50 years, of which 61% correspond to the female sex, the average time of evolution of the disease is 11 years. Among the most frequent comorbidities are vision-related diseases, with respect to habits, 12.72% of them drink alcoholic beverages, 71% of those surveyed have a university level level of education and the most frequent occupation corresponds to the public function. The predominant factor in non-adherence to treatment re ported by respondents was forgetting to do so. Of the parents are adherents to the treatment and the mean systolic and dias- tolic blood pressure correspond to 132.28 mmHg and 84.98 mmHg respectively, these arterial pressures are within the normal healthy range, so adherence to antihypertensive treatment is essential For this to be effective, avoid drug resistance and control the disease.
