Description of calorie consumption by students of the second semester of medicine of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the National University of Asunción

Introduction: Modern nourishment is often unbalanced, unstructured, and typically ends in a sedentary condition with risks of showing a body mass index (BMI) higher than the standard range. Because of the observed situation in the second semester students of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, which are diurnally subject to stressful situations, it is interesting to in vestigate the types of nutritious diets that these inure.
Objectives: Describe the dietary situation with the types of diets (hypocaloric, hypercaloric, normocaloric) and the respective bodies masses indexes of the secondsemester students of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the National University of Asunción.
Material and Method: Observational, descriptive study based on survey results carried out with the students of the second semester of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the National University of Asunción on their calorie consumption.
Conclusions: Through this research, it was found that university students in the second semester of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the National University of Asunción experience eating ha- bits with imbalances in their caloric profile.
Results: 91 students were included. The female sex corresponds to 65,2% of the total sample. Residence place it’s in 52% of the Central Department. The average value of age is 21. The surveyed average weight is 64.8 kg. The height demonstrates an average value of 1,67 m. In terms of the BMI, the average worth is 24,4. The average value of the calorie consumption is 1392 kcal/d. It was observed that the surveyed consume a more generous quantity of calories at the dining time. 86,8% of the students consu- me aliments between meals. The predominant type of diet is the hypocaloric one.
