Arterial Hypertension (AH) is a disease that causes an increase in blood pressure and is influenced by the dietary and physical habits of each individual. The increase in cardiovascular risk increases in women in the postmenopausal phase where there is a decrease in hormones. The aim of this study was to analyze salt intake in hypertensive postmenopausal women and its relationship with the presence of uncontrolled AH. Fifty postmenopausal hypertensive women with an average age of 60 years (38-81), most of them with a higher educational level, were included. The mean systolic blood pressure value was 137.35 mmHg (range: 110 - 190 mmHg) and distolic blood pressure was 82.08 mmHg (range: 60 - 100 mmHg). Seventy-six percent did not have controlled blood pressure values. Approximately 10% of the respondents stated that their average salt intake per day in the last week exceeded 5 grams or 1 teaspoon of salt. Eighteen percent of the respondents who reported normal or high salt intake have uncontrolled AH. A low percentage of postmenopausal hypertensive women consumed more salt than recommended for their underlying pathology. However, the association between salt consumption and uncontrolled AH was not significant.
