Abstract
Family violence is described as any type of mistreatment that occurs between family members, whether within the home or in other settings. This form of violence can take different forms, such as physical, emotional, psychological, sexual and economic abuse. It impacts all family members, including spouses, parents, children and other relatives, causing adverse effects both personally and socially. The object of the study is to characterize women aged 18 years and older who suffer from domestic violence; for this research, data from the National Survey on the Situation of Women and Domestic Violence (ENSIMUP) 2021 were collected and studied. Factors such as age, the different types of violence experienced, and the regularity of each type according to the various age groups were analyzed. Violence within the home is a complicated and multifaceted social issue. In Paraguay, more than 70% of women over 18 years of age report having experienced some type of violence in their home. The most common type is psychological violence, followed by sexual, physical and economic violence. These forms of violence generate serious and lasting effects on the physical and mental health of the victims, as well as negatively impacting their family and social environment. These results are in line with previous research showing the urgency of implementing comprehensive interventions to address this problem. It is crucial to carry out awareness-raising and educational actions aimed at the general population to prevent domestic violence. Likewise, it is imperative to improve resources and assistance services for those who have suffered, including psychological, legal and social support. Cooperation between public and private sector entities and the community is essential to reduce the frequency and mitigate the effects of domestic violence in Paraguay.
