Abstract

Introduction: Radiology safety is crucial to preserving the health of workers. Medical supervision at the beginning of the activity is a tangible indicator of a strong commitment to safety and the responsible provision of radiological services. This is why in the present study we want to determine the degree of knowledge possessed by officials in charge of the radiology area in relation to personal radiological protection and the evaluated hospital center where their functions are performed.

Materials and Methods: The study is cross-sectional, descriptive and observational with a quantitative approach. The survey in digital format via Google Forms anonymously and easily accessible through a QR code printed on a sheet and scanned by mobile devices. This process was measured based on the grading system of the National University of Asuncion (NOTES 1 to 5) as follows: 1 (failed); 2 (passed); 3 (good handling of the subject); 4 (very good handling of the subject) and 5 (excellent handling of the subject). Results: Of the 44 technicians from 4 different centers, 64% (28/44) were women, with a mean age value of 36.7 ± 7.61 years. Of these, 43% (12/28) were female technicians and 57% (16/28) were female radiologists. The remaining 36% (16/44) are men, with a mean age of 40.7 ± 9.93 years. Of these, 44% (7/16) are technicians and 56% (9/16) are radiologists.  Regarding the evaluation of knowledge on radiological protection, 77% (34/44) were able to pass with a score greater than or equal to 60% and 23% were able to pass. Conclusion: the health personnel surveyed on basic concepts on radiological protection demonstrated sufficient knowledge on the subject, however there are topics that should be reinforced to optimize the knowledge of these professionals. Key words: knowledge, radiological protection.
