El presente trabajo consistió en una revisión narrativa sobre los genes Hox y otros genes homeóticos en Aedes aegypti, debido a su papel fundamental en el desarrollo corporal y funciones clave del mosquito. Su análisis permite comprender cómo su expresión y posibles mutaciones pueden afectar funciones esenciales como el vuelo, la alimentación y la reproducción, directamente relacionados con su capacidad vectorial. El objetivo fue recopilar estudios publicados y no publicados entre 1970 y 2024 en bases de datos como MEDLINE, Scopus, Scielo, BVS y literatura gris, identificando 6 artículos relevantes. Los resultados mostraron que los genes homeóticos influyen en la morfología, reproducción y desarrollo del mosquito. Los autores describieron mutaciones que afectan estructuras como palpos, antenas y probóscide, y que la baja expresión de estos genes tras el segundo ciclo gonotrófico, reduce la fertilidad. También se destacó que el microARN-309 regula el desarrollo ovárico inhibiendo el gen SIX4, mediante la técnica CRISPR/Cas9. Se concluye que, aunque estos genes son fundamentales para la biología del vector, hay escasa literatura reciente y se recomienda aprovechar herramientas genómicas, como CRISPR/Cas9 y el análisis transcriptómico, para profundizar el estudio de estos genes y favorecer futuras estrategias de control vectorial.
